The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is set to roll out a new T20 competition in the window for the 2026 T20 World Cup. The ODOMMO Bangladesh T20 Cup 2026 — ODOMMO means indomitable in Bangla — will run
from February 5 to 9 and feature three teams, Dhumketu XI, Durbar XI, and Duronto XI, and is designed to bring the country’s top white-ball talent under one roof.
Bangladesh T20 captain Litton Kumar Das will lead Dhumketu XI, Najmul Hossain Shanto will captain Durbar XI, while Akbar Ali will be at the helm of Duronto XI. Most players, including T20I skipper Litton, were said to be against the BCB’s decision to refuse traveling to India for the T20 World Cup, which led to it being replaced by Scotland.
According to the BCB, the competition will carry total prize money and player fees of Tk 2.5 crore (Rs. 1.87 crore).
“We will be giving match fees along with other things. We are expecting to announce a good amount as prize money and all these efforts are taken to make sure that the tournament is competitive,” a BCB official was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.
The tournament will introduce an Impact Player rule, which began in the Big Bash League and has become popular in the IPL.
BCB follows BCCI, Scraps A+ contracts
Meanwhile, the BCB has reworked its approach to central contracts for 2026, opting to do away with the A+ category altogether. The decision stems from the current lack of players who are regular contributors across Tests, ODIs, and T20Is, a key benchmark for inclusion in the top bracket.
“We are not having any A+ category in the central contract this year,” a BCB official involved in the process confirmed. “None of our cricketers are currently playing across all three formats regularly, which was one of the prerequisites.”
Interestingly, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to take the same step for the same reason.
The aforementioned report said the BCB’s cricket operations committee has drawn up a probable list of 27 players, which now awaits final approval from the board.
