When Aspirants first premiered in 2021, few could have predicted the impact of Abhilash Thapliyal’s character, Shwetketu ‘SK’ Jha, or SK sir. The actor’s portrayal of the strict yet inspiring mentor quickly became a fan favourite, earning him immense recognition and even leading to a spin-off, SK Sir Ki Class. Over the years, SK sir has become synonymous with Abhilash himself, and audiences have closely followed his journey. However, recent observations have sparked speculation about his involvement in the highly anticipated third season of the show. Fans have been wondering whether he will return or step away to explore new projects.

Abhilash not part of Aspirants 3?

Recently, fans have noticed Abhilash’s absence from promotional events and social

gatherings with the Aspirants team. Notably, he was missing from his co-star Naveen Kasturia’s wedding in December last year in Udaipur. A source told Hindustan Times that he appears to be distancing himself from the team, “We also didn’t spot him in any pictures or videos from his Aspirants co-star Naveen Kasturia’s wedding last year in December. It had taken place in Udaipur. This is a sign that Abhilash is no longer involved with the show and hence wasn’t present at the big day of Naveen as he’s exploring his next move.”

Unclear future

At this point, there has been no official confirmation from the show’s makers regarding Abhilash’s involvement. Questions remain about whether there has been any disagreement behind the scenes or if the actor is simply exploring new opportunities.

It remains uncertain if Abhilash Thapliyal will reprise his role as SK sir in the next season of Aspirants.

About the show

Aspirants is a coming-of-age web series produced by The Viral Fever (TVF). It was created by Arunabh Kumar and Shreyansh Pandey, written by Deepesh Sumitra Jagdish, and directed by Apoorv Singh Karki. The show stars Naveen Kasturia, Shivankit Parihar, Abhilash Thapliyal, Namita Dubey, and Sunny Hinduja. It follows three friends, Abhilash, Guri and SK, who are preparing for the UPSC exam in Rajinder Nagar, Delhi.

The first season premiered on April 7, 2021, with five episodes available on TVF’s YouTube channel and TVF Play, concluding on May 8, 2021. In October 2023, TVF announced the second season, which began streaming on Prime Video on 25 October 2023. The series is widely regarded as one of the best and highest-rated Hindi web series.

The story of Aspirants shows both the past and present of the three friends. In the past, it focuses on their struggles as UPSC aspirants in Old Rajinder Nagar, Delhi, where they live in hostels and attend coaching classes. The present tracks their adult lives outside the coaching hub, exploring their careers, personal challenges, and relationships.
