Air India to operate Delhi-Toronto flights without fuel stop from Aug 1

New Delhi, Jul 22 (PTI) Air India will operate direct flights between the national capital and Toronto without a fuel stop from August 1 as the airline will deploy its new Boeing 787-9 aircraft on the route.

The airline will be operating non-stop services on the route after more than a year since the closure of Pakistan airspace in early 2025 had forced the carrier to take longer routes for North America and Europe flights.

Starting August 1, Air India will also operate daily flights between Delhi and Toronto, up from the current five weekly services, according to a release on Wednesday.

The airline had temporarily curtailed the services on the route.

Currently, Air India is operating flights connecting Delhi and Toronto with its legacy Boeing 777

planes, with a fuel stop at Vienna (Austria) for the services to Toronto.

“The removal of the fuel stop is subject to available airspaces and is intended to reduce the current flying time from Delhi to Toronto by nearly 3 hours, with the flying time decreasing from about 20 hours currently (including the fuel stop) to 17 hours. The return Toronto-Delhi service will continue to operate non-stop, with flying time of up to 16 hours,” Air India said in a release.

The new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft, which has a longer range, has 30 private suites in business class, 28 premium economy and 238 economy class seats.

“From 1 August 2026, Air India will operate daily flights between Delhi and Toronto, up from the current five weekly flights. The airline had temporarily reduced frequency on the route between June and July 2026 due to unprecedented fuel price increases and broader geopolitical developments that affected flight operating conditions,” the airline said.

Air India CEO and MD Campbell Wilson said the airline is steadily expanding the availability of the newest aircraft and latest cabin products across key international routes.

“The introduction of our new Boeing 787-9 on the Delhi-Toronto route marks another important milestone, bringing a significantly enhanced travel experience to customers between India and Canada while extending our most premium offerings across North America,” he added.
