Jemimah Rodrigues delivered a composed and mature batting performance, guiding Delhi Capitals to a crucial seven-wicket win over Mumbai Indians in a tense Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026 match at the Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara on Tuesday.
On a slow and tricky pitch, Jemimah displayed great composure, remaining unbeaten on 51 off 37 balls and ensuring her team crossed the finish line without panic. Her knock, laced with five boundaries and one six, stood out not just for the runs scored but for the control and assurance she brought during a challenging phase of the chase.
WPL 2026: Delhi Capitals vs Mumbai Indians – Highlights
Delhi Capitals began their pursuit of 155 confidently, thanks to a brisk opening stand between Shafali Verma and Lizelle
Lee. However, once both openers were dismissed in quick succession, the momentum shifted. The middle overs became difficult, with the pitch offering little assistance for stroke-making and pressure building with each dot ball. That’s when Jemimah stepped up and took responsibility.
Instead of playing risky shots, Jemimah focused on rotating the strike and picking the right deliveries to attack. She timed the ball well, consistently found gaps, and ensured the required run rate never spiralled out of control. Her partnership with the experienced Marizanne Kapp proved decisive, as the two batters complemented each other perfectly. While Jemimah anchored the innings, Kapp contributed timely runs, eventually sealing the match with a six.
“I’m very, very proud of the way the team played in the partnership Shafali and Lizelle had at the start on this pitch, put a lot of pressure on them,” Jemimah Rodrigues said after the match.
“The batter has to go through, build partnerships, run well between the wickets and accelerate as possible initially. And then when it matters, when we need the risk, we can go take it. I learned a little bit from that and Harman di was how they did it because they got themselves in and then they accelerated,” she added.
Other Performers As DC Beat MI
Earlier, Mumbai Indians had posted 154/5, largely due to another strong effort from Nat Sciver-Brunt and skipper Harmanpreet Kaur (41 off 33).
Sciver-Brunt remained unbeaten with a fluent knock of 66 not out off 45 balls, featuring two sixes and six fours. This was her third fifty-plus score of the season.
