Ruben Amorim has poured cold water on any January transfer hopes at Manchester United, insisting there are “no conversations” about reinforcing his injury-hit squad.
Despite juggling a depleted roster and watching United miss chance after chance to break into the Premier League’s top four, Amorim made it clear on Friday that January signings are not part of the plan.
“The transfer window is not going to change,” the Portuguese boss said bluntly. “We have no conversations in this moment to have any change in the squad.”
United sit sixth at the halfway stage of the season, just three points off the final guaranteed Champions League spot — but equally close to being dragged back into the chasing pack after a frustrating 1-1 draw with bottom side Wolves.
Amorim’s stance marks a notable shift from just two weeks ago, when he suggested movement in the market was still possible. Now, the message is clear: trust the process, not the window.
“There’s a process, there’s an idea that is going to continue,” Amorim said. “We are near the Champions League places, but also near eight teams behind us. Our focus is to win the next game.”
United could be without eight players for Sunday’s trip to Elland Road, with injuries piling up alongside AFCON absences. Bruno Fernandes, Mason Mount, Kobbie Mainoo, Matthijs de Ligt and Harry Maguire are all sidelined, leaving Amorim stretched thin.
Despite links to Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo and speculation over exits for Joshua Zirkzee and Mainoo, Amorim insists no one has asked to leave, and no one is arriving.
“No, none,” he said. “I don’t expect them to come to me.”
With Leeds unbeaten in six and Elland Road expected to be hostile, Amorim knows excuses won’t count.
“It’s going to be hard — even for players with experience,” he admitted.
No reinforcements. No distractions. Just survival and results.
