In a big development in the ongoing inheritance battle with regard to late industrialist Sunjay Kapur, his widow Priya Sachdev has now informed the Delhi High Court that it is ‘healthy tradition’ for a husband
to give all his assets to his wife. Her counsel told the court on Thursday that even Sunjay’s father had given everything to his wife, Rani Kapur, in his will.
“There is nothing suspicious about a husband giving everything in his assets to his wife. As is the case in my father-in-law’s ‘will’ where everything was given to his wife. It is a healthy tradition which perhaps has been maintained,” senior advocate Rajiv Nayar, who is representing Priya Kapur, said.
Advocate Nayar also claimed that a printout of the will was shown to Sunjay Kapur in February this year, i.e. before his death. Priya’s counsel claimed that it was Sunjay who suggested some changes in the draft and, therefore, the last modifications were made on March 17, 2025.
What Is The Legal Battle?
Ever since businessman Sunjay Kapur’s death, his family has been fighting over his will and assets. Karisma Kapoor’s children, Samaira and Kiaan, have moved the Delhi High Court to demand a share in the assets of their late father, Sunjay Kapur. In their petition, the two children claimed that their stepmother, Priya Sachdev, forged Sunjay’s will. Recently, the children also filed a new petition against Priya Sachdev seeking to stop her from transferring or altering any of Sunjay’s assets until the matter is resolved. While Karisma is not directly involved in the legal battle of her former husband’s inheritance drama, she is representing her children, Samaira and Kiaan.
Sunjay’s Sister Calls Priya ‘Fraud’
Recently, Sunjay’s sister Mandhira lashed out at Priya Sachdev, accusing her of demanding secrecy at every stage of the inheritance process. In a recent interview, Mandhira slammed Priya and called her a ‘fraud’.
“You wanted an NDA. You wanted the Will in a sealed envelope. And now you don’t want a forensic. What are you hiding? How many games are we going to play?” she said on the podcast InControversial with Pooja Chadhuri.
“As far as I go, I’m going to fight this till the end. Who is she not to pay the tuition fees, dude? It’s not her money that she’s claimed it. This is pure robbery. This is what you call major theft. This is what you call major fraud. And this country needs to wake up and see it,” Mandhira added.
