UP Warriorz and Mumbai Indians play out a rematch in the Women’s Premier League 2026 on Saturday, January 17, two days after an interesting contest in Navi Mumbai. Led by the great Meg Lanning, the Warriorz upstaged the defending champions against all odds to overcome a painful streak of three defeats.
Bowling first, the Warriorz restricted the power-packed MI batting line-up to 161/5 in their 20 overs on a good batting surface. The experienced trio of Shikha Pandey (1/25), Deepti Sharma (1/31) and Sophie Ecclestone (1/26) rose to the occasion for their side even as MI’s crucial all-rounder Nat Sciver-Brunt played a fantastic knock of 65 off 43 balls.
Setting the game up with an impressive bowling effort, the Warriorz then found another hero for the night.
After being retired out by the team management ahead of the death-overs phase against the Delhi Capitals, middle-order star Harleen Deol responded in the best way possible. She played an imposing knock of 64 not out off 39 balls to take her team to the finish. MI failed to come up with a strong bowling display.
UP Women vs MI Women Head-To-Head Record
The two teams have now played each other eight times in the history of the WPL. While the Mumbai Indians have won the contest five times, the Warriorz have come out triumphant on three occasions.
UP Women vs MI Women Key Players To Watch Out For
Harleen Deol: Deol has been in magnificent form with the bat for Warriorz and is one of the rare positives for the bottom-placed side. Even in the match she was curiously sent out of the park by the management, the promising cricketer was batting 47 not out off 36 deliveries.
Sophie Ecclestone: The experienced bowler delivered a tight spell of 1 for 26 off her 4 overs, never really allowing MI to get going at her end. She would be vital for Lanning & Co to try to repeat a winning display.
Harmanpreet Kaur: The MI skipper may have missed out with the bat in the last game, but she has been in tremendous touch in the middle. Harmanpreet blazed an innings of 71 not out in the win over the Gujarat Giants.
Nat Sciver-Brunt: She was the stand-out performer for the titleholders in the loss against the Warriorz. The veteran cricketer played a fantastic knock of 65 in the first half before picking up 2 wickets for 28 in the second-innings.
Which Team Has The Upper Hand?
The Warriorz have certainly raised their stock with a victory over MI and must be feeling a lot more confident heading into this one than the previous match against the same opposition. But MI, the two-time champions, is not the team that falls over twice on too many occasions. Given their all-round depth and the experience in the ranks, the mighty Mumbai should still have an edge over the Warriorz.
