World No. 1 T20I batter Abhishek Sharma is likely to open for India in the second T20I against Ireland. In the match scheduled to be played at the Civil Service Cricket Club in Belfast on Sunday (June 28), the left-handed batter from Amritsar, who scored 49 runs off 20 balls in the first T20I, will have a chance to enter the record books.
If Abhishek, who has scored 1,487 runs in 46 innings of 47 T20I matches, manages to hit two sixes within the first 36 balls of his innings, he will become the fastest batter in history to reach 100 sixes in T20 Internationals.
At present, the record for being the quickest batter to hit 100 sixes in T20Is belongs to Austria’s Karanbir Singh, who reached the milestone in just 813 balls. Abhishek, meanwhile, has
smashed 98 sixes from only 775 balls faced so far.
The overall record for being the fastest batter in the world to hit 100 sixes in T20 cricket is held by India’s Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. The 15-year-old left-handed batter from Bihar, who could make his international debut for the senior Indian men’s team on Sunday, needed just 515 balls to bring up 100 sixes in T20s.
