Shardul Thakur will captain Mumbai in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy, with the 17-member squad also including India T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav, Sarfaraz Khan, and Shivam Dube.
Mumbai, the defending
champions of the competition, won it last year under Shreyas Iyer, who is not part of the current squad that also features Ajinkya Rahane.
Suryakumar was exceptional with the bat for Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, scoring 717 runs with an impressive strike rate of 161.97. However, he has struggled to replicate that form for India this year. In the Asia Cup, he managed only 72 runs in six innings, averaging 18.00. This was followed by the Australia tour, where he scored 84 runs in four T20I innings. Notably, he has not hit a single fifty so far this year. The former number one-ranked T20I batter will hope to regain his rhythm before India faces South Africa in the five-match T20I series starting next month.
Who Else In Mumbai Squad?
The squad includes wicketkeepers Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Hardik Tamore, along with India seamer Tushar Deshpande and Tanush Kotian.
Siddhesh Lad, who has scored 530 runs in five matches with three centuries and a fifty in the first leg of the Ranji Trophy this season, is also named in the squad.
The Elite division of the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy will take place from November 26 to December 18. The first round will be played in Lucknow, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, and Kolkata, while the knockout round will be held in Indore.
Mumbai will face Railways in their tournament opener in Lucknow on November 26.
