Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur has said that although the schedule was very hectic after the ODI World Cup win, she would like it that way after every mega tournament, adding that the entire team was waiting
for the series against Sri Lanka, because they enjoy themselves on the field.
With the ODI World Cup behind them, the Indian team have been eager to return to on-field action and start preparations for next year’s T20 showpiece,
Harmanpreet said on Saturday, December 20, ahead of the opening game against Sri Lanka in Vizag.India take on the islanders in the first of the five-match T20I series on Sunday, December 21, over a month after their historic home ODI World Cup win under Harmanpreet.
“It was hectic (after the ODI World Cup win), but I want this kind of schedule after every World Cup, so I don’t mind that. But yeah, looking forward to this series, we have been waiting for a month when we will go to the field because end of the day we enjoy ourselves on the field,” Harmanpreet said while speaking at the pre-match press conference.
“So tomorrow, we are going to start our first game, really looking forward to that. It is a very important series for us and hopefully, we all give our best shot,” Harmanpreet added.
When asked about the inclusion of multiple youngsters in the team, the Indian captain said, “Our end goal is the next T20 World Cup in six months and before that, we want to play as many T20s as possible.”
“From tomorrow it is going to start and some new players in the team; it is the right time to give them a fair chance to understand how we have to go in the next World Cup. So yeah, it is a very important series for all of us and we just want to play with a free mindset and play how we have been playing T20s for the last couple of years,” Harmanpreet added.
