Mahoba (UP), May 1 (PTI) Two children drowned in a dam in the Srinagar area of Mahoba district, a police officer said on Friday.
Circle Officer Charkhari Deepak Dubey said that information about the drowning was received around 7:30 pm on Thursday near Urmil Dam in village Pipra Maf.
Acting on the alert, the local police team rushed to the spot and launched a search and rescue operation with the help of divers, he said.
Dubey said that during inquiry it was found that Ritesh (7) and Aryan (8), who were staying near the dam with their families, had gone to bathe around 4:30 pm. They slipped and fell into deep water, leading to the incident, he said.
The officer said the incident came to light after a four-year-old girl informed the family members.
During the search operation, the bodies of both children were recovered, Dubey said, adding inquest proceedings were carried out and the bodies have been sent for postmortem examination.
Further legal action is underway in the matter, he added. PTI KIS DV DV
