Kantara: Chapter 1, the mythological drama starring Rishab Shetty, has made a strong impact at the box office. Released on October 2 amid high anticipation, the film has surpassed fans’ expectations and
earned widespread praise for its powerful performances, rich portrayal of regional folklore and outstanding technical craftsmanship. Continuing its impressive run through the second weekend, the film has so far collected approximately Rs 465 crore.
According to Sacnilk, the film earned Rs 13.50 crore net on its second Tuesday in India, bringing its total domestic collection to Rs 465.25 crore. On Thursday, the film recorded an occupancy rate of 29.18% in Kannada, 16.22% in Telugu, and 26.16% in Hindi. Despite being only in its second week of release, these figures reflect a remarkably strong performance. Considering that the 2022 film Kantara grossed around Rs 400 crore worldwide, it will be interesting to see how far Kantara Chapter 1 goes at the box office.
Kantara Chapter 1’s Record-Breaking Opening
The prequel to the 2022 blockbuster Kantara has now become the second-highest-grossing Kannada film of all time and the top Kannada earner of 2025. Remarkably, it also ranks among this year’s highest-grossing Indian films, an impressive achievement for a regional production. Kantara: Chapter 1 opened to massive numbers, collecting Rs 61.85 crore on Thursday and Rs 45.4 crore on Friday, followed by Rs 55 crore on Saturday and Rs 63 crore on Sunday.

Rishab Shetty has both directed and written Kantara: Chapter 1, which is set during the Kadamba era in Karnataka. It was largely known as a Golden Age in Indian history. The Kadambas played a pivotal role in shaping the region’s architecture, culture, and identity, and the film draws richly from this historical backdrop. The mythological thriller features Rukmini Vasanth, Rakesh Poojari, Jayaram and Gulshan Devaiah in key roles.
