CM Shivakumar urges digital creators to promote Mangaluru as tourist destination

Mangaluru (Karnataka), Sept 18 (PTI) Chief Minister D K Shivakumar on Friday urged digital creators to help turn Mangaluru into a recognised tourist destination, ahead of his first cabinet meeting outside Bengaluru.

Shivakumar held a breakfast meeting with Mangaluru-based social media influencers and content creators at Gandhi Square Cafe, where infrastructure and the city’s presence on the tourism map were discussed, according to sources.

He pointed to the shortage of five-star properties and the wider need to upgrade the city’s hospitality infrastructure.

Without adequate accommodation and related services, Mangaluru cannot fully leverage its natural and cultural attractions to attract sustained tourist traffic, he said. The same applied to promotion,

with the city’s attractions needing to be presented systematically rather than left to chance discovery.

Another constraint identified by Shivakumar was the decline in activity after 7 pm, when the city’s urban core becomes relatively quiet, sources said.

Shivakumar told the creators that they could help counter that perception by sharing images and narratives that keep Mangaluru visible to audiences planning to travel to or invest in the city. PTI COR GMS SSK
