Soha Ali Khan Reveals Why Sharmila Tagore Thought Kunal Kemmu Wouldn’t Marry Her

Soha Ali Khan and Kunal Kemmu are one of the cutest B-town couples, and the two never miss a chance to set major couple goals. Before getting married to each other, Kunal and Soha were dating for about

seven years and were living together for two years before their marriage. Now, in a recent podcast, Soha spoke about how living together made Sharmila Tagore feel that Kunal would not marry Soha.

While in a conversation with actor Sonakshi Sinha and relationship expert Kasturi Mahanta, Soha revealed, “Kunal and I were together for seven years before we got married. We were living together for two years before marriage. That’s when my mother said, ‘Now he’s not going to marry you. You’ve taken away all the interest,’ and I thought, ‘Maybe she’s right.’”

“We (Kunal and I) weren’t actually wrapped up in the idea of marriage anyway. Kunal said it wasn’t that important, and I also felt that maybe it wasn’t that important. Eventually, since it wasn’t such a big deal, we thought we might as well get married,” she further continued and added.

Soha Ali Khan further revealed that it was their parents’ desire which made them decide to get married: “My mother also insisted that men need a little push – otherwise they won’t ask you to marry them.”

On the work front, the 46-year-old actress, who is married to Bollywood actor and filmmaker Kunal Kemmu, was last seen in the horror drama Chhorii 2, where she played an impactful portrayal of Daasi Maa. Directed by Vishal Furia, the film is a sequel to the 2021 thriller Chhorii.

Starring Nushrratt Bharuccha in the lead, the sequel also featured key performances by Gashmeer Mahajani and Saurabh Goyal, among others. The film, produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, and Vikram Malhotra, was released on April 11, 2025.
