New Delhi, Jun 14 (PTI) Project Great Indian Bustard (GIB) has added three more chicks to its conservation breeding programme in the last couple of days, Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav said on Sunday.
This takes the total number of chicks hatched so far in the fourth year of captive breeding to 26, he said.
In a post on X, Yadav said, “In the 4th year of GIB captive breeding, 26 chicks have hatched so far, including 18 through artificial insemination, 4 through natural breeding, and 4 from wild-collected eggs.” “In exchange of these wild eggs, 3 chicks have hatched in the wild, in Rajasthan, through jumpstart intervention, to improve founder genetic diversity and mitigate predation risk,” the minister added.
He said the captive stock has
now increased to 94 birds, with more chicks expected to hatch during the ongoing season. PTI ALC RHL
