New Delhi, Jun 10 (PTI) The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Wednesday signed two agreements with the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research-Central Road Research Institute (CSIR-CRRI) to strengthen road maintenance, while adopting steel slag-based technology for instant pothole repairs, officials said.
Under a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA), CSIR-CRRI will provide technical support for functional and structural evaluation of MCD roads, including pavement condition assessment for recommending suitable re-carpeting layers and third-party quality assessment of road works, according to an official statement.
The agreement also provides for training programmes on pavement construction, maintenance and evaluation for MCD engineers and staff.
In a separate technology management agreement, the two organisations agreed to implement “Eco Fix”, an iron and steel slag aggregate-based ready-to-use pothole repair mix, for repairing distressed and damaged roads under the civic body’s jurisdiction.
The agreements were signed at the MCD headquarters in the presence of the civic body Commissioner Sanjeev Khirwar and CSIR-CRRI Director Chalumuri Ravi Sekhar.
“Road dust is a major contributor to air pollution in the national capital and timely road repairs can help reduce dust emissions,” Khirwar said.
He added that the adoption of innovative technologies and specialised technical support will help tackle road dust issues more effectively while ensuring faster and better-quality road maintenance. PTI MSJ NB NB
