Adam Zampa Breaks Shane Warne's Record During 2nd ODI Against Zimbabwe

Adam Zampa led Australia’s spin bowling attack in the second ODI against Zimbabwe on Friday (September 18) and picked up two wickets for 62 runs in nine overs to help the visitors successfully defend their total of 356 runs and secure a big win by 82 runs to take 2-0 lead in the three-match series.

By accounting for the dismissals of two Zimbabwe batters at the Harare Sports Club on Friday, Zampa extended his tally to 201 wickets in 123 ODIs.

Zampa, who is one of Australia’s greatest white-ball bowlers of all time, is the fastest spinner to take 200 ODI wickets for Australia. He broke the previous record held by Shane Warne.

Warne needed 125 matches to claim 200 wickets in ODIs, whereas Zampa picked up his 200th ODI wicket in his 123rd match.

who is Australia’s highest wicket-taker in T20Is, is also the third-fastest spinner in the world to take 200 wickets in ODIs.

Pakistan’s Saqlain Mushtaq was the fastest spinner to take 200 ODI wickets. He achieved the feat in 104 matches, while Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan picked up his 200th ODI wicket in his 115th match.

The overall record for being the fastest bowler in the world to take 200 ODI wickets is held by Australia’s Mitchell Starc. Starc picked up his 200th ODI wicket in his 102nd match.

For Australia, apart from Zampa, Cooper Connolly, Matt Renshaw and Josh Hazlewood also picked up two wickets each in the second ODI against Zimbabwe on Friday, while Oliver Peake dismissed Brendan Taylor. The wicket of Taylor helped Peake become the youngest spinner to take an ODI wicket for Australia.

He broke the previous record held by Nathan Hauritz. Hauritz was 20 years and 155 days old when he picked up his maiden ODI wicket, whereas Peake was 20 years and seven days old on September 18, 2026.
