Along with the paid holiday announced by the Maharashtra government for election day (Thursday, January 15), there is another offer that might encourage Mumbaiites to cast their votes for the Brihanmumbai
Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections. To increase the voter turnout, the Indian Hotel & Restaurant Association, AHAR, has announced a special offer for voters – show inked finger and get discount at restaurants and hotels. As voters often prefer to go on a picnic or stay home on the holiday instead of voting, the municipal administration has teamed up with AHAR to change this mindset. This initiative has given a big boost to the ‘SVEEP’ campaign led by Municipal Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani and Additional Commissioner Dr. Ashwini Joshi. The administration has already started awareness campaigns through street plays, flash mobs, and schools and colleges.
