The Bengaluru Police have registered an FIR against four undertrial prisoners at the Central Jail in Parappana Agrahara after a video showing them dancing and using prohibited items inside the barracks
went viral on social media and television channels.
The case against the prisoners was registered at the Parappana Agrahara police station under Section 42 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and relevant provisions of the Prisons Act, 2022.
The accused were identified as Karthik alias Jitre Patrick, Dhananjaya alias Renukaprasad, Manjunath alias Koli Manja, and Charan Rao.
The complaint was filed by the Bengaluru Central Prison Superintendent, Imamsaab Myageri, who stated that the incident took place inside Barrack 8, Room No. 7.
The footage, reportedly captured on a mobile phone, showed the four inmates dancing and using banned items inside the prison.
According to the complaint summary, the video aired on several television channels on November 9, 2025, revealed the inmates’ activities.
Myageri noted that the prisoners were seen using prohibited materials, and sources claimed they were also consuming alcohol and eating non-vegetarian food.
The footage, recorded on a mobile phone, a banned device inside the jail, was circulated outside and reached the media.

The prison authorities have sought a detailed investigation into how the mobile phone was brought inside, who recorded the video, how it was transmitted outside, and who leaked it to media outlets.
Following the incident, the Parappana Agrahara police registered an FIR and initiated an investigation.
Meanwhile, three other inmates in the Ranya Rao-related gold smuggling case, Tarun Raj, serial killer Umesh Reddy, and alleged ISIS recruiter Juhab Hameed Shakeel Manna, were also questioned regarding the use of mobile phones inside the jail, and their statements were recorded.
Jail officials have completed the internal investigation and are preparing to submit a detailed report, it was known.
The accused inmates reportedly spoke openly about using mobile phones and maintaining a carefree lifestyle within the prison premises.
In the aftermath, the Karnataka government suspended Superintendent Imamsaab Myageri and an assistant superintendent while transferring Chief Superintendent K Suresha.
The leaked footage purportedly featured inmates involved in serious crimes, including a terror suspect, a serial rapist, and a gold smuggler, with mobile phones in their possession.
The BJP staged a protest demanding Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s resignation after the video showed a terror suspect, allegedly linked to ISIS recruitment, using a phone inside the jail.
