Ace India batter Virat Kohli and former captain Rohit Sharma capped off their comeback into the team with two brilliant knocks to help India clinch a series win in the final of the three-match tie against South Africa, on Saturday, December 6, in Vizag.
Once Yashasvi Jaiswal (116*, 121 balls) and his experienced opening partner Rohit Sharma (75, 73 balls) put together a 155-run partnership in less than 26 overs, the result was never in doubt.
India chased down 271, finishing at 271/1 in less than 40 overs. Kohli contributed a classy 65* off 45 balls.
South Africa’s star wicketkeeper-batter Quinton de Kock crafted a polished 106 off 89 deliveries, his 23rd ODI hundred, but it was overshadowed as India’s batters dominated the match with authority.
Kohli and Rohit wrapped up their international games for this year as India ended their three-match ODI series against South Africa on Saturday, December 6.
Both Rohit and Kohli were in excellent form throughout the series. The latter registered consecutive centuries in the first two ODIs, scoring 135 and 102, while Rohit contributed 57 in the opener, 14 in the second and 75 in the series-deciding game.
India will next face New Zealand in a three-match ODI series beginning Sunday, January 11, in Vadodara, with the remaining matches scheduled in Rajkot and Indore.
Although the teams for Delhi and Mumbai are yet to be announced, reports indicate that both Kohli and Rohit could feature in the Vijay Hazare Trophy beginning later this month.
Since January, the BCCI has mandated that all cricketers take part in domestic cricket to remain eligible for international selection. Earlier this year, both Virat and Rohit appeared in Ranji Trophy games for Delhi and Mumbai.
With both aiming to play through the 2027 ODI World Cup, the duo will need to feature in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Kohli’s participation is confirmed, while Rohit is expected to represent Mumbai as well, pending a formal announcement.
