Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal’s wedding was a heartfelt celebration of love, simplicity, and tradition. On June 23, 2024, the couple exchanged vows in an intimate civil ceremony at Sonakshi’s Bandra apartment in Mumbai, surrounded by close family and friends. The ceremony blended elements of both Hindu and Muslim traditions, with the chanting of holy mantras and the call of the azaan, reflecting their interfaith union.
The couple had planned their wedding in just 25 days. Sonakshi shared that they wanted a ceremony that felt like “us,” focusing on the people they love and the simple things that matter most to them.
Later that evening, they hosted a grand reception at Bastian, a popular celebrity hotspot in Mumbai, where they celebrated with a star-studded guest list that included Salman Khan, Rekha, Kajol, Anil Kapoor, and Saira Banu.
When asked once whether religion has ever come in the way of her relationship, Sonakshi was quick to dismiss the notion. “In how we are as a couple, no. In how we are at home, in terms of the different ways that we’ve been brought up in, there are certain customs that he and his family follow, which I really respect, and there are certain customs that me and my family follow, which they respect. Religion is something that will never come in between the two of us. There’s never been any question, fight, or tension when it comes to that, and I think that’s the most beautiful part of it. Our strength lies in respect.”
The 38-year-old also revealed how her parents, actor Shatrughan Sinha and politician Poonam Sinha, have wholeheartedly embraced Zaheer as part of the family. “100% damad he is,” she said with a laugh. “Everyone runs helter-skelter when he comes, saying ‘Zaheer aa rahe hai, damad ji aa rahe hai.’ My mom keeps asking kya khayega, kya khayega, and my dad loves spending time with him. I think they’ve become really good friends. When I enter the room, it’s usually the two of them talking while I sit quietly!”
Speaking about her relationship with Zaheer, Sonakshi reflected on what makes their bond special after seven years of dating before marriage. “We say we want to find someone we want to grow old with. But after being with a person like Zaheer, you realise you need someone you can remain a child with. Ussi se hansi mazak barkarar rehta hai. You are constantly laughing. This was something I was missing in my life. Ab aa chuka hai, toh I couldn’t be happier.”
On the professional front, Sonakshi was recently seen in Nikita Roy, marking the directorial debut of her brother, Kussh Sinha.
