When James Bond Actress Judi Dench Asked This Udaipur Tailor To Stitch Custom Jacket

In a quiet corner of Udaipur, far from red carpets and premieres, an old photograph is now doing the rounds online. The reason is quite surprising. A local tailor claims that Oscar-winning actor Judi Dench once walked into his home to get a jacket stitched. The claim surfaced in a video shared by a foreign travel vlogger, who stopped by Sandouk House of Fashion, a tailoring shop in the city.

While chatting, the tailor casually dropped the story, pulling out a faded photograph that he said was taken inside his home during Dench’s visit. The vlogger, caught off guard, appeared visibly stunned.

According to the tailor, the visit dates back to the time when Dench was in Udaipur for the filming of The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel.

The tailor said Dench was looking to replicate a specific jacket but couldn’t find anyone in the city willing or able to do it. That search, he claimed, led her to his doorstep.

“She came to my house because she was looking for a tailor-made jacket. She wanted a copy of a jacket but couldn’t find any tailor in Udaipur. Someone recommended my place, so she came to my house. We made the same jacket for her. I am also a tailor. I make such jackets and suits,” he said.

He went on to say that he also met other cast members during that period, including Bill Nighy, Dev Patel and Maggie Smith.

The simplicity of the anecdote, and the way it was told, struck a chord with viewers.
