Star Rajasthan Royals batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has said that he learnt a lot from his team’s defeat to the Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 2, adding that he should have kept the strike more to himself during the middle overs to ensure that the run flow didn’t stop, with the new batters finding it difficult to bat.
Rajasthan Royals’ campaign ended in Qualifier 2 as the Gujarat Titans chased down the 214-run target, sealing the win with eight deliveries to spare.
Sooryavanshi starred with a superb 96 and later reflected that Rajasthan Royals may have ended up 10 to 12 runs short of a competitive total.
“Last match mein kaafi kuch seekhne ko mila. Jaise mujhe aisa lagta hai ki hum log 10-12 runs short huye. But phir bhi, mujhe aisa lagta hai ki beech
ke overs mein mujhe apne paas strike zyada rakhni chahiye thhi, kyuki naye batter k liye thoda tough ho raha thha (I learned a lot from the last match. I felt that we ended up around 10-12 runs short. Even so, I think I should have tried to keep the strike more with myself during the middle overs because it was proving a bit difficult for the new batters coming in),” Vaibhav said while speaking to the host broadcasters.
Sooryavanshi noted that batting became challenging during the middle overs, which made it tough for new batters to settle in. Reflecting on the knock, he felt he could have taken on greater responsibility by retaining the strike more often instead of exposing incoming batters to the tougher phase of the match.
“Wicket us time pe accha tha nahi, sticky tha wicket. Toh mujhe aisa lagta hai us time pe maine ek mistake kari ki naye batters zyada strike pe aa rahe the. Us time pe mujhe strike pe zyada rehna chahiye tha (The pitch was not very good at that stage; it had become quite sticky. Looking back, I think I made a mistake because the new batters were facing too much of the strike. In that situation, I should have tried to stay on strike more often myself),” Vaibhav said.
