Ace India batter Smriti Mandhana is on the cusp of yet another massive record, with the opener requiring 78 more runs to go past New Zealand’s Suzie Bates and become the highest run-scorer in women’s T20Is.
Bates currently leads the list with 4758 runs from 178 matches, at an average of 28.83. Mandhana is on 4681 runs from 167 games, with an average of 30.79.
Mandhana came close to Bates’ record after her record-smashing 124-run knock against Hong Kong in India’s second group-stage match of the Asia Cup on Thursday. On Saturday, September 5, India will take on arch-rivals Pakistan.

Mandhana is India’s second-highest
run-scorer in women’s Tests, behind only Sandhya Agarwal, with 788 runs in nine games at a brilliant average of 52.53.
Mandhana is India’s second-highest run-scorer in women’s ODIs as well, only behind Mithali Raj, with 5411 runs in 120 games at an average of 47.88. On Thursday, Mandhana went past Mithali to become the highest run-scorer in women’s cricket.
Against Pakistan, Mandhana has scored 307 runs in 11 T20Is, at an average of 30.7.
Mandhana holds the record for scoring the most runs in a calendar year in women’s cricket as well, after she scored 1362 runs in 23 matches in 2025, at an average of almost 62.
Meanwhile, the match against Pakistan will be Harmanpreet’s 150th T20I as captain. No other man or woman has led in as many T20Is. She already holds the record with 149 matches as skipper.
Muneeba Ali is 31 runs away from scoring the most T20I runs for Pakistan in a calendar year. Bismah Maroof holds the record, having scored 459 runs in 14 matches at an average of 41.72 in 2019.
India come into the contest with a clear upper hand, having lost to arch-rivals Pakistan only once in seven meetings at the Asia Cup, which came in 2022.
