Moving a business from one city to another can bring major changes, and one Bengaluru-based agritech founder says his decision to shift his company’s operations from Chennai has made a clear difference. He believes the move has helped both his business and personal life.
Harish Varadharajan shared his experience on LinkedIn while marking one year since the relocation. He listed several changes he noticed after moving, including easier access to customers, investors and startup networks, along with lower operating costs.
Founder Says Bengaluru Went Beyond His Expectations
Looking back at the past year, Varadharajan said Bengaluru had performed better than he expected. He has lived in five cities across the world over the last decade and said the city’s
weather stood out for him.
He also said Bengaluru’s traffic, often seen as one of the city’s biggest problems, had not caused major trouble in his own experience.
“One year since we made the move from Chennai to Bengaluru. Hands down, one of the best decisions I’ve made personally and professionally,” Varadharajan wrote in his viral LinkedIn post.
The City Offered Several Business Advantages
Varadharajan said Bengaluru’s market for premium fruits suited his agritech business. He also pointed to the weather as a factor that helped bring down some operating costs.
Another major benefit, according to him, was the city’s large startup community. With many founders, venture capital firms and angel investors based there, he said fundraising discussions became much easier.
He also encouraged entrepreneurs planning to start businesses in India to consider Bengaluru. “If you’re starting a company in India, or moving back to India to build one, Bengaluru is the obvious answer,” he wrote.
Other Founders Share Their Bengaluru Experience
His post also led other entrepreneurs to share their own experiences. One founder said their company had recently shifted from Mumbai to Bengaluru and saw benefits in areas such as hiring, infrastructure, customer access and investor connections.
“Wondering why we didn’t do it sooner — ease of access to talent, infra, customers, and of course investors. Great weather is a bonus we didn’t really count on, but it does a lot to help you want to build every day,” the founder commented.
However, another entrepreneur disagreed with the idea that Bengaluru was the only strong choice. They pointed to Nashik as another option for agribusinesses, especially those working with fruits and vegetables.
The founder said Nashik has a strong agricultural ecosystem, suitable climate and access to important produce markets. While Bengaluru may offer stronger startup funding and networking opportunities, Nashik was presented as another possible choice for food and agriculture startups.
