PM Modi Pays Floral Tribute At Rajghat
PM Modi reached Rajghat in New Delhi on Friday morning and paid floral tribute at Gandhi’s memorial. He also attended the Sarva Dharma Prarthana Sabha held at the memorial, where Mahatma Gandhi’s life and teachings were remembered.
In his video message, PM Modi highlighted Mahatma Gandhi’s emphasis on self-reliance and the use of indigenous products. He called on people to make Swadeshi a part of their everyday choices and specifically urged them to buy Khadi on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti.
The Prime Minister later visited Vijay Ghat and paid tribute to former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri, whose 122nd birth anniversary is also being observed on Friday.
Gandhi Jayanti is observed every year on October 2 to mark the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. The day is also observed as the International Day of Non-Violence. Mahatma Gandhi played a central role in India’s freedom movement and championed non-violence, self-reliance and Swadeshi. His advocacy of Khadi was closely linked to his vision of economic self-reliance and resistance to dependence on British-made goods.
Lal Bahadur Shastri, India’s second Prime Minister, is remembered for his leadership during the 1965 India-Pakistan war and for popularising the slogan “Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan”.
