Star Barcelona and Spain right-winger Lamine Yamal’s latest Instagram post has gone viral on social media, with the caption grabbing extra attention.
It was a FIFA World Cup graced by many of football’s biggest stars, but in the end, the trophy belonged to a disciplined and formidable Spain team that proved too strong for every opponent, even without Yamal producing his most electrifying performances.
Yamal was the focus of so much attention, but he struggled to find full fitness and finished with just one goal, in a group-stage victory over Saudi Arabia.
“6 am, a photo I had lying around,” Yamal captioned his photo, with his usual swagger.
Yamal revealed in an interview with MARCA earlier this week that he spoke to
Lionel Messi after the final. The two were seen chatting after the final whistle, with the Spain winger saying that the conversation meant even more to him than winning the FIFA World Cup medal.
“He is the greatest player in history and someone I have always looked up to. After the match, I wanted to show him my respect. He told me to keep following my path and that the future belongs to our generation,” Yamal said.
“Those words are worth as much as the gold medal hanging around my neck. If someone had told me a few years ago that I would be here lifting the World Cup after playing against Messi, I would have thought they were crazy,” Yamal added.
The youngster scored his only goal of the FIFA World Cup in his first start of the tournament against Saudi Arabia. Although Yamal couldn’t add another goal or assist for the remainder of the campaign, he remained a constant threat on the right flank and played a key role in Spain’s title-winning run.
