Durga Puja in Kolkata is not only about devotion — it is also about theme, art, and creativity. Each pandal competes with the other in scale and imagination. This year, the New Town Sarbojanin Puja has
emerged as one of the biggest attractions, pulling massive crowds even before the festival has formally begun.
Spread across 35,000 square feet and extending into a sprawling mela ground that covers 2.5 lakh square feet, the pandal offers visitors a grand spectacle. Decorated with autumn jasmine blooms, it begins by depicting Ma Durga’s descent from the skies, before leading devotees into the sanctum where the goddess is surrounded by mirrors and real kash phool (kans grass). The journey culminates in a breathtaking effect — wherever one looks, Ma appears to be present.
The theme, “Phooler Shaje, Phooler Majhe” (In the adornment of flowers, amidst flowers), is both simple and profound.

Speaking to News18, organiser Samaresh Das explained, “Flowers are the most pious offering, and through them, we want to welcome Ma and see her everywhere. That’s why every corner of this pandal is created with flowers. The idea is to feel her presence all around us. The response has been overwhelming, and we are sure we will be number one this year.”
Visitors agree. Brinda Roy, waiting patiently in the long queue, said, “Pujo is all about pandal hopping. This year, Operation Sindoor and this pandal are trending the most, so we had to come.”
Another organiser, Ankur, added with pride, “We are number one — even ChatGPT is saying that. Pujo is about Ma, and this concept is so unique that crowds are pouring in even before the festival has officially begun.”
With its floral grandeur, immersive storytelling, and sheer scale, New Town Sarbojanin has set the stage for a spectacular puja — where devotion meets artistry, and where Ma is seen everywhere, between flowers and beyond.
