Amaravati, Jun 15 (PTI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Monday requested Singapore PM Lawrence Wong to extend cooperation in technology, semiconductors, quantum computing, AI and university research.
Naidu is on a two-day visit to Singapore to attract investments and review key collaborations related to Amaravati and other projects.
“CM Chandrababu met with Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong. The CM requested cooperation in technology, semiconductors, quantum computing, AI and university research,” a press release said.
During the 30-minute meeting, Naidu sought Singapore’s assistance in establishing a semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem and building capacity in the sector.
He also requested cooperation in urban governance
for Amaravati, the state’s greenfield capital, and other urban centres, the release said.
Naidu briefed the Singapore PM on Andhra Pradesh’s natural farming initiatives and requested him to consider importing the state’s horticulture and aquaculture products.
He called for Andhra Pradesh-Singapore collaboration in the development of ports and airports, while exploring other avenues for cooperation.
Wong enquired about the construction of the greenfield capital, such as educational institutions, infrastructure and building projects being developed to international standards, the release said.
Naidu said Amaravati would emerge as one of the most liveable cities and briefed Wong on Andhra Pradesh’s population management initiative.
He highlighted the state’s renewable energy ambitions, saying Andhra Pradesh was moving towards generating 160 GW of green energy.
Further, Naidu invited the National University of Singapore to establish an international branch or satellite campus in Amaravati.
The CM met NUS President Tan Eng Chye and discussed opportunities for academic collaboration, research partnerships and higher education expansion in Andhra Pradesh.
Naidu informed NUS leadership that the Andhra Pradesh government was working towards developing Amaravati as a global education and knowledge hub and that several prestigious institutions had already established their presence in the greenfield capital region.
He sought the support of the NUS Policy Institute in designing innovative public policies to attract global investments and accelerate economic growth in Andhra Pradesh.
NUS professors enquired about the progress of Amaravati’s development and recalled the university’s role in preparing the city’s master plan, the release said.
In response, Tan Eng Chye said NUS would explore the possibility of establishing a presence in Amaravati and examine opportunities for deeper collaboration with the state, it added. PTI STH SSK
