Rohit Sharma scored 75 runs from 73 balls and added 155 runs for the first wicket with Yashasvi Jaiswal (116 not out) on Saturday (December 6) to help India get off to a flying start in the 271-run chase against South Africa. In the series decider played at Visakhapatnam’s ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Rohit’s super show with the bat, which included 7 fours and 3 sixes, kicked South Africa out of the game and helped India secure a win by nine wickets to bag the series with a scoreline of 2-1. After India sealed the series, Indian players celebrated the triumph by cutting the cake at the team’s hotel. But during the celebrations when Jaiswal, who scored his maiden ODI century on Saturday, offered the cake to Rohit, he refused to eat it.

In the series decider, apart from setting up a big win for the Indian team, Rohit also completed 20,000 runs in international cricket. The former India captain needed 27 runs in the third ODI to join the 20,000-run club, and he achieved the objective by taking a single on the fourth ball of the 14th over bowled by Keshav Maharaj.
Rohit is the fourth Indian cricketer after Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and Virat Kohli to score at least 20,000 runs in international cricket. Overall, only 14 cricketers have managed to score 20,000 or more runs in international cricket. Rohit has 20,048 runs to his credit in 538 innings of 504 matches, and he now moves ahead of AB de Villiers (20,014 runs in 420 matches) in the highest run-getters list.
