A music event in Mumbai is courting controversy after singer Shilpa Rao was stopped before she could finish her performance. Many people who attended the event were unhappy with how things were handled. Now, some of them are questioning the performances that took place before Shilpa came on stage.
The incident happened at the Bombay Music Project on Saturday, October 24. Shilpa was performing when her microphone was switched off. Even when she tried to thank her fans, she was interrupted as the Kulte Project took over the stage.
Why Are Anu Malik And His Daughter Ada Being Blamed?
Anu Malik’s daughter, Ada Malik, also performed at the music festival. Ada, who is a fashion designer, danced to Ding Dong Ding Dole from the 2003 film Kucch To Hai.
Videos of her performance have also gone viral.
After Shilpa’s performance was cut short, some people wondered if the earlier acts had taken up too much time.
An Instagram user named @aashwini_shetye claimed that an event manager went up to Anu Malik near the stage and told him that there was no time left. However, according to the attendee, Anu continued performing, which caused more delays.
The attendee also questioned why Anu’s performance and Ada’s dance act were included in the event. The user called some performances “absolutely unnecessary” and claimed that the audience did not respond very enthusiastically to Ada’s act.
What Are People Saying On Social Media?
Several people agreed with the attendee in the comments section. One user wrote, “Agreed. There was no need for such fillers…if they were not on schedule they should have skipped such fillers.” Another person commented, “YES!!! This is what I have been saying.” Someone else also suggested that Ada did not look like she was enjoying herself while performing.
However, there is no confirmation that Anu Malik or Ada Malik’s performances caused Shilpa’s set to be cut short.
Shilpa Rao’s Reaction To The Incident
Taking to Instagram after the event, Shilpa spoke about how the experience had affected her. She thanked the audience for continuing to support her even after the music stopped and said the moment had left her heartbroken.
“Mumbai, a little piece of my heart broke tonight. It hurts deeply to have something so beautiful taken away from us like this. But even when the music stopped, you did not. The way you kept calling my name, the love in your voices. I could feel it all. Our story tonight was left unfinished. I promise, I will come back. I love you, Mumbai. Forever and ever. Shilpa.”
All About The Controversy
During the Bollywood Music Project, Shilpa Rao’s performance reportedly came to an abrupt end when her microphone was switched off as she waited to address the crowd and wrap up her set. According to reports, other male singers were given extra time to perform, but Shilpa was not offered the same opportunity. The singer was reportedly left waiting on stage for around 15 to 20 minutes, hoping that her microphone and the stage lights would be switched back on.
