Delhi Police on Thursday launched a coordinated, large-scale operation to dismantle organised crime in the Delhi-NCR region, apprehending 36 suspects linked to various gangs. Police conducted raids at 58 locations as part of a massive crackdown on gang violence.
According to an official statement, at least 820 police personnel participated in the operation to “break the backbone of gangsterism”. This included 39 teams with 500 personnel from the Outer North District and 19 teams with 320 personnel from the Rohini District.
Police conducted raids at several locations across Delhi, Sonipat, Sampla, Jhajjar, Rohtak, and Bahadurgarh. The police teams were led by officers of the Inspector rank and ACP/Ops from both districts.
At least 36 suspects were
apprehended by the police, with six individuals officially arrested. These individuals were linked to several gangs, including those of Kala Jathedi, Jitender alias Gogi, Neeraj Bawana, Rajesh Bawana, Tillu Tajpuriya, Kapil Sangwan alias Nandu and Nettu Dabodha, as per the statement. Neeraj Bawana’s Father Arrested
The arrested gang members were identified as Shaktiman, Vedpal, Prem Singh Sehrawat, Naveen, Ankit, and Hariom. Of the arrested individuals, Sehrawat is the father of Neeraj Bawana, who is currently lodged in Tihar jail. Bawana, who was one of the most wanted criminals, was arrested in 2015 by the Special Cell for his involvement in over 30 cases of murder and extortion and runs a gang from inside the jail.
Bawana’s name surfaced in the high-profile murder of wrestler Sagar Dhankar in 2021. Olympic medallist Sushil Kumar was imprisoned in connection with this case, wherein it is claimed that Bawana’s associates, along with Kumar, assaulted Dhankar, Sonu Mahal, and Amit, resulting in Dhankar’s death.
According to police, he had links with Fazal Ur Rehman, a close associate of gangster Dawood, and others who had ties with Canada-based fugitive Arsh Dalla and Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a Khalistani activist who was killed in Canada in 2023.
Police also recovered a significant amount of cash, valuables, and weapons during the raids. They also seized a bullet-proof Mahindra Scorpio, a motorcycle, seven pistols and revolvers, a buttondar knife, 40 live cartridges and more. Mobiles phones and other electronic devices have been sent for forensic analysis.
