New Delhi, Oct 20 (PTI) Actor Kunal Kapoor expressed his admiration for “Ramayana” co-actor Ranbir Kapoor and called him the “perfect choice” to essay the role of Lord Ram in the film.
Kunal and Ranbir feature in Nitesh Tiwari’s “Ramayana”. The film is set to release on November 5 and is mounted as an ambitious global-scale adaptation of the mythological epic. It is produced by Namit Malhotra’s DNEG and Prime Focus Studios.
Kunal, who essays the role of Lord Indra Dev in the film, said “Ranbir is the perfect choice.”
“Shree Ram is the hardest kind of role because you can’t perform him, you have to be him. It needs stillness, grace, an actor who can say everything while doing almost nothing. Very few people can hold a frame that quietly. Ranbir
can,” he added.
Kapoor also spoke about Malhotra and called him a “visionary”. “I’ve been in this industry 25 years, and I’ve rarely seen anyone bring this much passion and love to a project. The time and resources he’s poured into this are unreal. This isn’t a film for him. It’s a mission,” he said.
The film also features Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, Sunny Deol as Hanuman and Ravi Dubey as Lakshman, among others.
Actor Arun Govil, who famously essayed Ram in Ramanand Sagar’s television series “Ramayan”, plays King Dasharatha in the new film.
The production is also backed by Yash’s Monster Mind Creations, with Dharma Productions handling distribution across North India’s Hindi-speaking markets and Sony Pictures releasing the film internationally.
It will also be the first collaborative project for Ranbir and Kunal. PTI ATR
