Paro – The Untold Story of Bride Slavery has been officially enlisted on the Oscars Eligibility List for the 98th Academy Awards, released by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS). The film now stands among a select group of international titles that have met the Academy’s qualification criteria and are eligible for consideration across categories in the 2026 awards cycle — marking a significant milestone in its global journey.
Produced by filmmaker and social activist Trupti Bhoir and directed by acclaimed storyteller Gajendra Ahire, Paro is a socially driven drama that explores the systemic issue of bride trafficking. The film stars Taha Shah Badussha alongside Trupti Bhoir and Govind Namdeo, and has garnered attention on international
platforms and film circuits for its sensitive, issue-led storytelling.
The film’s inclusion on the Oscars eligibility list underscores its artistic merit and thematic relevance, while reflecting its compliance with the Academy’s submission and screening requirements. While eligibility does not equate to a nomination, it represents an important step in the international awards process.

Reacting to the development, Taha Shah Badussha said, “I’m deeply honoured that Paro has been listed on the Oscars Eligibility List. This film is more than a role — it is a voice for the silenced and a story that deserves to be seen and heard beyond borders. I’m grateful to the entire team and everyone who believed in this journey. May this recognition open doors for meaningful cinema that inspires empathy, awareness and change.”
The Oscar eligibility recognition further reinforces Paro’s position within the global independent cinema space and highlights the growing international visibility of socially conscious Indian storytelling.
