For years, Hauz Khas was known as the deepest station of the Delhi Metro, sitting nearly 30 metres below the surface. But Delhi has officially gone deeper. This year, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC)
has broken its own record with the under-construction Golden Line, where the tunnel stretch reaches a staggering 39 metres underground. The achievement marks a major milestone in Phase 4 of the Delhi Metro’s expansion.
Engineers navigated challenging layers of hard rock and mica beneath Delhi’s historic landscape using high-precision Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs), ensuring minimal surface disturbance despite the dense population and heritage structures above.
Which Is The Deepest Station Of The Delhi Metro?
A video currently going viral on social media clarifies the confusion. While Hauz Khas remains one of the deepest stations, roughly the height of a 10-storey building buried beneath the city, the deepest metro tunnel in Delhi is now on the Golden Line.
The viral clip explains that the Delhi Metro network now spans over 390 km with the completion of this phase, reinforcing its position as one of the largest metro systems in the world. “In 2026, the Delhi Metro broke its own records. On the new golden line of phase 4, the tunnel between Chhatarpur and IGNOU has become the deepest tunnel to date, which is 39 meters deep. The total network of Delhi Metro has now grown to more than 390 kilometers, with more than 289 stations active,” the user said.
The clip further revealed, “To make this underground world, modern tunnel boring machines have been used, which make way through old Delhi’s dense population and historical heritage without any noise or movement.”

How Did The Internet React?
Social media users have been quick to react, with many questioning the safety. “Safe to bilkul bhi nhi h ak truck road pe khda h kuch time baad road k andr tha,” read a comment.
Another shared, “Itna safe hai toh yaha gadiya kyu dhas rhi hai my home near by IGNOU.”
“Idhar hi rehta hu 8 saal se complete nahi hua,” said a user.
An individual stated, “Woh sab theek hai but Golden Line (Phase 4) Aerocity-Tughlakabad complete kab hogi? We’re frustrated from last 6 years. We lost hope now @officialdmrc.”
As per India Today, the Delhi Metro announced an extension of the Golden Line with an elevated corridor from Tughlakabad to Kalindi Kunj. The corridor will have the following stations – Tughlakabad, Sarita Vihar, Madanpur Khadar and Kalinda Kunj. The corridor will improve connectivity between South Delhi and the Yamuna riverfront.
