All eyes are on teenage prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi ahead of India’s first T20I against Ireland in Belfast on Friday, with anticipation growing over whether the 15-year-old will be handed his first international cap.
Ever since earning a place in the Indian squad, Vaibhav has become one of the most talked-about names in cricket circles. The excitement surrounding his potential debut has only intensified after his parents arrived in Northern Ireland to support him.
A video circulating on social media showed them entering the Indian team’s hotel in Belfast, sparking further speculation that the youngster could be set for a special moment in his career.
Speechless On Recieving India Jersey
Speaking in a BCCI video before the series, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi reflected on the emotional experience
of receiving his India jersey for the first time, describing it as the realization of a lifelong ambition.
“I mean, words cannot explain it. The reason I picked up a bat from day one and went to the cricket ground for practice, today that dream was fulfilled, and the biggest step in that journey was completed today. I truly cannot put this feeling into words,” Vaibhav said in a BCCI video.
The teenager also admitted that seeing the jersey left him overwhelmed and struggling to comprehend the significance of the moment.
“It felt just like a dream. The moment I saw that T-shirt, I couldn’t stop smiling. Sometimes, something happens that you never even imagined could happen, and when it finally does, you don’t know how to react. That was exactly how I felt,” he added.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s Journey To Team India
Vaibhav’s rise through the ranks has been extraordinary. Earlier this year, he became the youngest cricketer ever selected for India’s men’s team, surpassing a record previously held by Sachin Tendulkar since 1989.
His momentum continued in the India A setup, where he produced a remarkable innings of 94 off just 29 deliveries in the tri-series final against Sri Lanka A. During that knock, he reached fifty in only 11 balls, marking a new List A world record.
The Bihar batter earned his maiden national call-up after a sensational IPL 2026 campaign with Rajasthan Royals, scoring 776 runs at a strike rate of 237.30. He also finished with a record 72 sixes and collected multiple individual awards, underlining his status as one of Indian cricket’s brightest young talents.
