The India women’s cricket team are up against the Netherlands in their second Group A match of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 on Wednesday (June 17). In the fixture taking place at Headingley in Leeds, India, after getting an invitation to bat first, rode on half-centuries from opening batters Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma to post a total of 209/5. The total of 209 by the Women in Blue in the ongoing match helped them enter their name in the history books.
India are only the second team in history to score a 200-plus total in a Women’s T20 World Cup match.
In the past, only twice did a team manage to score more than 200 runs in a Women’s T20 World Cup match, and on both occasions, the feat was achieved by the England women’s cricket team.
The English team posted a total of 213/5 in 20 overs against Pakistan on February 21, 2023, at Newlands in Cape Town and scored 219 runs for the loss of only one wicket against Sri Lanka in the first match of the 2026 edition at Edgbaston in Birmingham on June 12, 2026.

For India, Mandhana top-scored against the Netherlands by playing a knock of 74 runs from 47 balls, and Shafali scored 55 runs from 38 balls. The duo added 115 runs in 11.4 overs to help India get off to a flying start in their second group stage match of the ongoing shortest-format mega-event.
India’s previous highest total in a Women’s T20 World Cup match was 194/5 in 20 overs against New Zealand at Providence, Guyana on November 9, 2018. In that fixture, Harmanpreet Kaur scored 103 runs from 51 balls for the Indian team.

India faced arch-rivals Pakistan in their first match of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 on Sunday and secured a win by 64 runs. Mandhana’s 68 helped India post a total of 170/6 in that fixture, and then Deepti Sharma picked up 5 wickets for just 10 runs in four overs, bowling Pakistan out for just 106 runs in 17 overs.
