Gurugram, May 25 (PTI) Gurugram police arrested a driver, who was allegedly absconding with money entrusted by his employer instead of delivering them to the designated location, officials said on Monday.
The police arrested Vinay Kumar, 35, a resident of Delhi’s Ambedkar Nagar currently residing at Faridabad’s Surya Vihar, on May 21 from Uttar Pradesh’s Basti, recovering 160 grams of gold, Rs 2.75 lakh in cash and an iPhone from him, they said.
According to the officials, a person filed a complaint at Police Station Sector-50 on May 3, claiming that on April 30, he had sent Kumar to Sector-49 to deliver cash amounting to around Rs 47.28 lakh. However, instead of delivering the cash, he fled with the money and switched off his mobile phone.
Based
on the complaint, a case was registered at Sector-50 police station under the relevant sections of the BNS, they added.
Subsequently, during the investigation, the Crime Branch Sector-39 police team arrested Kumar, produced him before the court and taken on 4-day police remand, they said.
“During police interrogation, it was revealed that the accused had been working as a driver for the complainant for the past two years. When the complainant sent him to deliver the cash, greed took over, and he fled with the money,” the spokesperson of Gurugram police said.
Out of this money, he purchased gold worth Rs 26 lakh through a relative, bought an iPhone and spent the remaining amount on personal expenses, he said. PTI COR SHS SHS
