When an actor says they gained 14 kg for a role, the first question is usually, what did they eat? For Nimisha Sajayan, the answer involved a serious change to her diet. The actor went from 58 kg to 72 kg while preparing to play ASI Babita Singh in ‘Babita Singh Reporting’.
Her calorie intake reportedly went from around 1,200 calories a day to as much as 8,000. She ate meals such as sandwiches with egg bhurji, poha with sev and peanuts, pancakes with maple syrup and waffles with cream. There was plenty of protein in the plan too, with eggs, paneer, tofu, vegetables and yoghurt making appearances.
So yes, Sajayan had to eat a lot. But the weight gain was only one part of the transformation.
Once the role was done, she had to lose the weight she had deliberately
put on. And according to Sajayan, that was the much harder part.
Sajayan recently opened up about the experience on Instagram, and her post is very different from the usual celebrity weight-loss reveal.
She says the first 10 days of her weight-loss journey were particularly difficult. She wasn’t sleeping properly and was dealing with mood swings and exhaustion. There were days when the frustration became so much that she would sit in front of her trainer, Ali Shifas, and tell him, “I can’t do this anymore.”
That admission changes the way you look at the transformation. From the outside, weight loss can look simple. Eat differently, train regularly and watch the number on the weighing scale come down.
Sajayan’s experience shows what that process can actually feel like. She says there were days when she was ready to quit. Shifas, whom she calls ‘Shifukka’, became the person who helped her keep going. According to Sajayan, he knew when to push her and when she simply needed someone to remind her to keep trusting the process. She also credits him for never making her feel guilty about the difficult days.
The interesting thing about Sajayan’s story is that the 14 kg she gained was intentional. It was part of her preparation for a character, and her diet was planned around that goal. Reports have said that she worked with a nutritionist and chef during the process to hit her goal.
The weight loss that followed had a different purpose. She wanted to return to her earlier physique, and that meant reversing a change that had taken considerable effort to create.
That is where the story becomes less about a celebrity body transformation and more about what happens when you ask your body to change direction. For someone trying to lose weight for their own health, there is no reason to follow an actor’s deadline.
Looking back, Sajayan says the experience taught her something beyond losing weight. For her, it was about being patient and trusting the process.
