The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) has issued a public advisory warning residents of rising temperatures across Kerala and urging people to take precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses.
According to the advisory, several parts of the state are experiencing above-normal temperatures, with conditions expected to worsen during peak daytime hours. The authority cautioned that prolonged exposure to heat could lead to dehydration, heat exhaustion and heatstroke, particularly among vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, outdoor workers and those with pre-existing health conditions.
The KSDMA advised people to avoid direct sunlight between late morning and afternoon, drink plenty of water even if not feeling thirsty,
and wear light, loose cotton clothing. Residents have also been asked to limit strenuous physical activity during the hottest parts of the day and ensure proper ventilation indoors.
Special instructions were issued for schools, construction workers and those employed in agriculture and other outdoor occupations. Employers were urged to adjust work timings, provide shaded rest areas and ensure access to drinking water.
The disaster management authority also warned against leaving children or pets inside parked vehicles and advised the public to check on elderly neighbours and those living alone. In case of symptoms such as dizziness, nausea, headaches or confusion, people were asked to seek medical help immediately.
Officials said the situation is being closely monitored and further advisories may be issued depending on how weather conditions evolve in the coming days.
