social media platform. The unlikely union between the two bitter rivals was earlier announced by Trump, who took to Truth Social to announce that a meeting was slated with Mamdani at the Oval Office on November 21. Social media had braced for an ugly catfight-like situation when the unstoppable force met the immovable object.

Keeping it straight to the point, Trump wrote: “Communist Mayor of New York City, Zohran “Kwame” Mamdani, has asked for a meeting. We have agreed that this meeting will take place at the Oval Office on Friday, November 21st. Further details to follow!”

What happened next surprised one and all, and the Mamdani-Trump union broke the Internet… quite literally.

Trump Praises Mamdani

After labelling Mamdani with not-so-flattering words such as “lunatic”, “communist”, “despot”, among many others, Trump’s meeting with the historic winner of the New York mayoral elections went surprisingly well. In fact, the clashing duo called their meeting “productive”.

“He really ran an incredible race against, you know, a lot of smart people, starting with the early primaries against some very tough people, very smart people. And he beat them and he beat them easily. And I congratulated him and we talked about some things in very strong common, like housing and getting housing built, and food, prices and the price of oil is coming way down,” Trump said.

Mamdani agreed with the US chief: “The meeting with the president and as he said, it was a productive meeting focused on a place of shared admiration and love, which is New York City, and the need to deliver affordability to New Yorkers,” he said.

Trump reiterated that he was pleasantly surprised by how well the meeting with the mayor-elect went, adding that the two men actually share strikingly similar end goals.

“We had a meeting today that actually surprised me,” he said. “He wants to see no crime, he wants to see housing being built, he wants to see rents coming down – all things that I agree with.”

On Same Page

Mamdani said he was happy with how the meeting with the president unfolded. He got to talk about the rent in the city, the cost of groceries, and the affordability of New York.

“We spoke about rent, we spoke about groceries, we spoke about utilities. We spoke about the different ways in which people are being pushed out. And I appreciated the time with the president. I appreciated the conversation. I look forward to working together to deliver that affordability for New Yorkers,” Mamdani said.

Trump, once again, was in agreement with Mamdani.

“We had some interesting conversation, and some of his ideas are really the same ideas that I have. But a big thing on cost. You know, the new word is ‘affordability.’ Another word is just ‘groceries.’ It’s sort of an old-fashioned word but it’s very accurate. And they’re coming down,” he said.

Mamdani was asked about his “fascist” jibe at Trump but before he could answer, Trump intervened and said: “That’s OK, you can just say yes, OK? It’s easier. It’s easier than explaining it, I don’t mind.”

People on social media couldn’t stop talking about the duo’s meet-up, especially since the two seemed cordial and all smiles —a sight they hadn’t anticipated in their wildest dreams.

To nobody’s surprise, Mamdani-Trump’s White House meeting became the top trend on X on Saturday.
