Mammootty has acted in more than 400 films across multiple languages during a career spanning over five decades. On his special day, he was accompanied by his son and one of the most loved actors, Dulquer Salmaan, who clapped to show his support for his father. In the video, Dulquer Salmaan was seen clapping enthusiastically as he expressed his pride in seeing his father receive one of the biggest honours in cinema.
Mammootty had earlier received the honour of Padma Shri in 1998.
What Does Padma Bhushan Mean?
The Padma Bhushan is the third-highest civilian award in India. This honour is considered a step above the Padma Shri and is awarded for “distinguished service of a high order.” In most cases, recipients have already built a long-lasting national impact in their field and are widely respected across generations.
Mammootty has worked across Malayalam, Tamil, and Hindi cinema for decades and is regarded as one of India’s finest actors. His progression from Padma Shri to Padma Bhushan reflects how the honours often recognise an artist’s growing legacy over time.
Playback singer Alka Yagnik is another major Padma Bhushan recipient this year. Her voice dominated Bollywood music charts through the 1990s and 2000s, with countless hit songs that remain fan favourites even today.
Mammootty’s Work Front
Mammootty was recently seen in Patriot, directed by Mahesh Narayanan. Produced by Anto Joseph and K. G. Anil Kumar, Patriot features an ensemble cast including Mammootty, Mohanlal, Fahadh Faasil, Kunchacko Boban, Nayanthara, Revathi, Darshana Rajendran, and Rajiv Menon. The film released worldwide on May 1, 2026, and opened to mixed reviews from critics.
Meanwhile, acclaimed filmmaker Adoor Gopalakrishnan and Mammootty have reunited for the upcoming Malayalam film Padayatra. The project marks a significant milestone as the legendary actor-director duo comes together again after 32 years.
