Even as Samantha Ruth Prabhu prepares for a new chapter in her personal life, the actor seems to have dropped a hint that fans may not have to wait too long to see her back on screen. A recent social media exchange has sparked excitement, especially among her Tamil audience.
Days after announcing that she would be taking a maternity break following the release of her Telugu action film Maa Inti Bangaaram, Samantha teased an upcoming collaboration with OTT platform Sony LIV. The streaming service shared a post in Tamil that read, “Hello everyone!” before adding, “We’ve been working on something special and can’t wait to share the details with you (heart emoji) Coming soon!!! #SonyTamil @samantharuthprabhuoffl @sonyliv.tamil.”
Sony LIV also reposted
the announcement on its Instagram Stories with the message, “We cannot contain our excitement,” while tagging Samantha. The actor responded by resharing the story and writing, “Looking forward,” along with a white heart emoji.
The exchange quickly caught fans’ attention. Many were surprised to see Samantha teasing a new project so soon after revealing her plans to step away from work for maternity leave. “We are looking forward to see Samantha,” one fan commented, while another wrote, “Welcome again in tamil movies samantha.” Several others filled the comments section with heart emojis.
While the makers have not revealed whether the collaboration is a Tamil film, a web series or another format altogether, the announcement has fuelled speculation. There have also been rumours that Samantha could return as a host with another talk show following the success of Sam Jam on Aha, though there has been no official confirmation.
Samantha has been one of the most recognisable names in both the Telugu and Tamil film industries since making her acting debut in 2010 opposite ex-husband Naga Chaitanya in Ye Maaya Chesave. The film was the Telugu adaptation of Gautham Vasudev Menon’s Tamil hit Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa, which featured Silambarasan TR and Trisha Krishnan.
Her last Tamil release was Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kaadhal in 2022. Directed by Vignesh Shivan, the romantic comedy also starred Vijay Sethupathi and Nayanthara. While promoting Maa Inti Bangaaram in Chennai recently, Samantha admitted she wished she had taken up more Tamil films over the years. “I always regret not doing more Tamil films; that regret will always be there with me.”
On the personal front, Samantha married filmmaker Raj Nidimoru, of Raj & DK fame, in December 2025. In June this year, the couple announced that they are expecting their first child together.
During the promotions of Maa Inti Bangaaram, Samantha had confirmed that she would be taking time off after the film’s release. “After Maa Inti Bangaaram, I will have to take a small gap, given my condition. I’ll have to take maternity leave. After that, I’ll be back with another film for my fans.”
This is not the first time Samantha has stepped away from work. The actor had earlier taken a break after being diagnosed with the autoimmune condition myositis before returning to films.
