SIR: Telangana CM Reddy directs leaders to step up grassroots outreach

Hyderabad, Jul 19 (PTI) Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Sunday directed ministers in-charge to oversee the ongoing SIR of electoral rolls and warned Congress leaders against remaining inactive during the exercise.

The CM participated virtually in a meeting on the SIR, which was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka, TPCC President Mahesh Goud, State Party Affairs In-charge Meenakshi Natarajan, AICC Secretary Sachin Sawant, ministers, MPs, MLAs, MLCs, constituency in-charges and SIR coordinators.

During the meeting, Reddy directed party leaders not to visit Gandhi Bhavan until August 3, the deadline for submitting SIR applications, according to a press release.

Expressing displeasure over the lack of active participation

by party leaders in the districts, Reddy said those who remain inactive during the ongoing SIR campaign would not be considered for chairperson posts in corporations or other nominated positions.

The chief minister warned that strict action would be taken against MPs who fail to discharge their responsibilities in the constituencies where they have been appointed as in-charges.

Since the deadline for the SIR has been extended until August 3, the CM said the additional time should be used as an opportunity to reach out to people.

He said 10 in-charge ministers would hold review meetings on the Special Intensive Revision in all districts on July 20 and directed MPs to organise periodic reviews while attending the ongoing Parliament session.

The CM also warned MPs, MLAs and MLCs against skipping SIR review meetings.

So far, the Congress has conducted 489 meetings on the SIR across the state’s 119 Assembly constituencies.

“Immediate action is required, especially in the most backward constituencies,” the CM said.

The CM directed MLAs, constituency in-charges and chairpersons to scrutinise reports submitted by Booth Level Agents rather than depend solely on reports prepared by Booth Level Officers, warning of strict action against those who fail to do so.

Reddy emphasised that party leaders should effectively utilise BLAs working on behalf of the Congress.

He said the leaders’ presence at the grassroots level is mandatory and directed all in-charges to visit their Assembly constituencies over the next 10 days.

Ministers, MLAs, constituency in-charges, corporation chairpersons and party functionaries appointed for the SIR should undertake these visits, he said.

The Gandhi Bhavan team was directed to monitor reports submitted by BLAs and BLOs continuously.

The chief minister said the 100 best-performing BLAs would be allowed to meet Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and have their photos taken with him.

A comprehensive review meeting will be held on July 30 to assess the progress of the SIR across all Assembly constituencies, the release added. PTI VVK SSK
