Sharad Kelkar is celebrating 6 years of Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior. The actor who essayed the role of Chhatrapati Shivaji in this epic historical action film took a trip down memory lane and shared a poster of the film.
To mark this special occasion, Sharad Kelkar penned a short note and tagged his co-stars in his post. “6 years of this wonderful experience @tanhajifilm Jai Bhavani, Jai Shivaji,” he wrote.
Tanhaji Completes Six Years
The epic historical action film directed by Om Raut was released on January 10, 2020. Based on the life of Maratha warrior Tanaji Malusare, the film starred Ajay Devgn in the lead role alongside Kajol, Saif Ali Khan, Neha Sharma, Luke Kenny, and Sharad Kelkar.
Set in the
17th century, the plot revolved around the Maratha warrior’s attempts to recapture the Kondhana fortress once it passed on to Mughal emperor Aurangzeb, who then transferred its control to his trusted guard, Udaybhan Singh Rathore.
Following its release, Tanhaji received wide acclaim from audiences and critics. The film became the highest-grossing Hindi film as well as the highest-grossing Indian film of 2020.
At the 68th National Film Awards, Tanhaji won the Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment award, the Best Actor award (Ajay Devgn) and the Best Costume Design award.
Sharad Kelkar Feels ‘Proud’ to Play Shivaji
Previously, during an interview with the Hindustan Times, the actor opened up about playing Shivaji in Tanhaji. “For a Maharashtrian, Marathi actor, this role is once in a lifetime. It’s the biggest achievement,” he shared.
Kelkar added, “People 100 out of 100 times mentioned this film and my role in the conversations. It was a matter of pride.”
Sharad Kelkar’s Upcoming Projects
Sharad Kelkar is all set to appear in Neeraj Pandey’s crime thriller television series Taskaree: The Smuggler’s Web. Alongside Kelkar, the Netflix series stars Emran Hashmi, Amruta Khanvilkar, Zoya Afroz, and Nandish Sandhu in prominent roles.
The series follows a dedicated customs officer and his team who take on a notorious smuggler leading a powerful syndicate. The series will showcase a gripping face-off between Hashmi and Kelkar, who plays the antagonist. The series is set to premiere on Netflix on January 14.
