Amazon Studios has officially announced that its much-anticipated Melania Trump documentary, titled Melania, will arrive in cinemas on January 30, 2026, followed by a global streaming release on Prime Video. The project, reportedly acquired for $40 million, offers an unprecedented look at the former First Lady’s life in the 20 days leading up to the 2025 U.S. presidential inauguration.
The film is directed by Brett Ratner, marking his return to filmmaking after nearly a decade. Ratner, known for Rush Hour and Red Dragon, stepped away from Hollywood after facing multiple sexual misconduct allegations in 2017, which he denied. His deal with Warner Bros. was terminated in the wake of the controversy.
‘Exclusive Access’ to the White House Transition
According to Amazon, the feature-length documentary will explore Melania’s world through her own perspective, offering “exclusive footage capturing critical meetings, private conversations, and never-before-seen environments.” The project reportedly showcases her as she “orchestrates inauguration plans, navigates the complexities of the White House transition, and reenters public life with her family.”
Melania herself serves as a producer on the film. In a January interview with Fox & Friends, she revealed that the production began in November and continues to document her daily life during the transition period.
“It’s day-to-day, from transition team to moving to the White House, packing, establishing my team, the First Lady office, moving into the White House, what it takes to make the residence your home, to hire the people that you need,” Melania said.
She credited the film’s concept to the popularity of her memoir, which was widely discussed for its candid tone.
Ratner, who relocated to Israel in 2023 and has since described himself as a “proud Zionist,” is reportedly also working on a documentary about the Abraham Accords. He has been photographed with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, signaling his strong ties in the region.
The Melania Trump documentary adds another high-profile and potentially polarising project to Amazon’s political slate. Reports suggest Jeff Bezos, Amazon’s founder and executive chairman, personally attended Donald Trump’s inauguration earlier this year, despite previous friction between Trump and The Washington Post, owned by Bezos.
Alongside Melania, Amazon is also developing a three-part companion docuseries chronicling the former First Lady’s life between New York, Washington D.C., and Palm Beach.
