Gurugram, Jun 10 (PTI) The Economic Offences Wing of the Gurugram Police arrested an accused in connection with a housing scam in which crores of rupees were allegedly collected from homebuyers despite the project being officially sanctioned for 94 flats.
The case pertains to the ”Sunehra Apna Ghar’ society project in Sector-55, where the property developers sold flats to 242 buyers against the approved 94 flats and then transferred the money collected from buyers into their personal accounts.
The accused, Anubhav (33), a resident of Delhi’s Mohan Garden, was arrested at Delhi Airport on June 8 while allegedly attempting to flee to Indonesia. The police had issued a lookout circular against him.
Anubhav is the son of the main accused, Ishpal Bharadwaj,
the contractor of the project, who was arrested in 2017.
According to the police, a woman had complained that during 2006-07, Bhardwaj persuaded her to invest in a flat in the Sector-55, following which she paid a total of Rs 37.50 lakhs in instalments between 2008 and 2013.
However, the construction work came to a halt in 2013, and despite several years having passed, she neither received the possession of the flat nor a refund of money.
Based on the complaint, a case was registered at Sector-56 police station, and an investigation was taken over by the Economic Offences Wing-I, Gurugram.
“During interrogation, it was revealed that Anubhav is the son of the main accused, Ishpal Bhardwaj. Along with his father and other co-accused, he allegedly collected crores of rupees from people for the Sunhera Apna Ghar Society project on the promise of allotting flats. But they neither provided the flats nor refunded the money,” a spokesperson of the Gurugram police said.
“Further investigation revealed that despite the availability of only 94 flats in the society, crores of rupees were collected from 242 applicants that were allegedly misappropriated by the accused. A total of six accused, Anubhav, Ishpal Bhardwaj, Amit Kumar, Pradeep Kumar, Sandeep, and Jagbir, have been arrested so far in this case.
