A woman appointed as a Booth Level Officer (BLO) in Noida has resigned from her position, citing the overwhelming pressure of juggling her duties as a government teacher and her responsibilities in the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
Pinky Singh, an assistant teacher at Geja Higher Primary School in Noida’s Sector 94, had been assigned as the BLO for Sector 33 Rockwood School, overseeing the records of 1,179 voters. She had already submitted data for 215 of these entries online but found it increasingly difficult to balance the demands of both roles.

In her resignation letter, Singh expressed her inability to continue, saying, “I am resigning from my job. I won’t be able to do this work anymore. I am neither able to teach nor perform the BLO work. Please let me know to whom I can hand over the election material.”
The letter, written in Hindi, which was addressed to an election officer, has since gone viral on social media.
The ongoing SIR exercise, which began on November 4, is scheduled to continue till December 4. BLOs, like Singh, are responsible for conducting house-to-house enumeration and verifying voter information.
The exercise involves matching data from the old electoral rolls and capturing additional details, such as photographs, using mobile apps. BLOs are expected to perform these tasks alongside their regular duties, often under tight deadlines.
The SIR exercise requires BLOs to work long hours, often beyond their usual duties, and some have raised concerns about the excessive workload and its impact on mental health.
Additionally, there have been reports of multiple suicides linked to the stress caused by SIR duties in different parts of the country.
