New Zealand crushed the West Indies by 9 wickets on Friday (December 12) to win the second Test of the ongoing three-match series in Wellington. In the match played at Basin Reserve, the Kiwis bowled West Indies out
for 128 runs in their second innings and then chased down the target of 56 runs in 10 overs for the loss of only one wicket. The win over the Roston Chase-led side helped New Zealand rise from 7th to 3rd position in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 points table. The 2021 WTC winners have 66.67 PCT% to their credit.
West Indies, on the other hand, remained at the bottom of the points table, but their PCT% has now dropped from 5.55 PCT% to 4.76. The Caribbeans have lost six out of seven matches played so far in the ongoing WTC 2025-27 cycle, and their chances of finishing in the top two are almost over now.

As a result of New Zealand’s rise to 3rd from 7th position, India have dropped from 5th to 6th position now. The 2021 and 2023 WTC losing finalists have 48.16 PCT% to their credit. Sri Lanka, Pakistan and England have also dropped one place each in the updated WTC 2025-27 points table due to New Zealand’s rise.
Australia, meanwhile, continues to lead the points table. The Baggy Greens have won all five matches played so far in the ongoing WTC 2025-27 cycle and have 100 PCT%. The 2023 WTC winners will play three more matches in the ongoing Ashes series against England, and if they manage to win all three of them, then their chances of finishing in the top two and qualifying for the WTC final for the third edition in a row will get a big boost.
2025 WTC winners South Africa are in 2nd position with 36 points out of the available 48 and 75 PCT%. If New Zealand defeat the West Indies in the first Test as well, which is set to start on December 18 in Mount Maunganui, then they will leapfrog the Proteas and take the No. 2 spot with 77.77 PCT%.
