A light moment during a film promotion has once again brought Mrunal Thakur’s personal life into focus. The actor was teased about a “Chennai” connection at a recent event, triggering laughter, blushes and renewed chatter around her rumoured link with actor Dhanush.
Mrunal was promoting her upcoming film Do Deewane Seher Mein with co-star Siddhant Chaturvedi when a reporter casually mentioned, “Woh Chennai waale kuch sawaal pooch rahe the aapse (They were asking some Chennai related question to you).” What followed was playful chaos.
Siddhant immediately jumped in, pointing at Mrunal and joking, “Inse tha Woh Chennai waala yaa mujhse tha? (That Chennai question was for her or me?)” Mrunal was quick to clarify that the question was meant for Siddhant, but by then, the moment had already taken on a life of its own. As the reporters laughed and added, “Hum samajh rahe hain (We are understanding),” Mrunal could not stop smiling, clearly caught off guard by the teasing.
The exchange comes amid ongoing speculation linking Mrunal to Tamil superstar Dhanush, who is based in Chennai. Dating rumours first surfaced last August when the two were spotted together at the Son of Sardaar 2 premiere. Since then, every shared appearance and online interaction has been closely watched.
Fuel was added to the chatter when Dhanush commented on the teaser of Do Deewane Seher Mein, writing, “Looks and sounds good.” Mrunal reacted with heart and sunflower emojis, a small interaction that fans quickly read into. At one point, reports even claimed the two were planning a private wedding on February 14, 2026, though those claims were later dismissed by insiders as untrue.
Despite the speculation, neither Mrunal nor Dhanush has confirmed a romantic relationship. Mrunal has consistently maintained that she is focused on her work and has described herself as “grounded, glowing, and unshaken.” She has also referred to Dhanush as a good friend, stressing mutual respect and a warm professional bond.
Recently, a viral video showed Dhanush and Mrunal Thakur getting married in a traditional South Indian ceremony. While Dhanush was seen sporting a white-coloured
veshti (dhoti) with a gold border with a matching shirt, Mrunal looked pretty in a maroon saree. In the clip, superstars Thalapathy Vijay, Dulquer Salmaan and Ajith Kumar can also be seen. Among others, music composer Anirudh Ravichander nd actresses Trisha and Shruti Haasan can also be seen attending the wedding ceremony.
The video was shared on social media with the claim that Dhanush and Mrunal Thakur tied the knot on January 22 in Chennai. However, a closer look at the video reveals that it is not real and is rather AI-generated.
